Notes from April 2017 meeting

Called to order at 11:29 am, Donald and Jill Eastlake’s house in Milford, MA.

Attendees:

Alexis Berlinguet, Debi Chowdhury, Donald Eastlake, Jill Eastlake, Richard Fine, Stephanie Fine, Allan Kent, Judy Mitchell, Carol Salemi (Sick Pups), Nancy Shapiro, Susan Smith, and Pat Vandenberg.

Officer reports:

President – Judy Mitchell – BoD in recess.  All outstanding business in complete.

Vice President – Jo Mary Orttung – not here.  No report.

Treasurer – Susan Smith – Some people haven’t told us if they are renewing.   Susan will email the remaining non-paid members notifying them that they will be considered off the list if they don’t respond.

Susan did get our report in on time.

Secretary – Jill Eastlake – here.  Jill (and Sharon) will look into moving our website to the ICG site at CC35.

The ICG Annual Meeting will be held at CC35. Costume-Con 35 will be held at the Hilton Mississauga Meadowvale, in beautiful Mississauga, Ontario, Canada on April 20-24, 2017. See http://costumecon35.com/

Discussion on holiday celebrations…

Carol mentioned “Fezziwig Balls”…

Pat – Plymouth has many food activities.  Running $46 to $100 for non-members and members, and more depending upon the meal.  Membership is $10.  There are many activities available there.  All food are 1620’s themed.  The Sunday brunch with Santa is modern.

Pat/Allan – Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon has just built a banquet hall and they would cater.  The Zoo is closed during the winter.  The banquet hall is available all year.

Ann spoke last time about Sturbridge Village.

Libraries might be available.

Looking into catered meals as well.

Interest in Viking wire work – Judy can teach…

Needle felting – Merle’s space is too small.  However, there may be a needle felting workshop at CC35.  Also Halcyon Yarns sells kits…  See https://halcyonyarn.com/kits.html…  If we’re interested, Judy can pick up kits if people will pay her back for them.

Carol can do a workshop on ping pong ball eyes.

Judy can do prosthetics workshop, and we stared Carol down.  Carol doesn’t have the materials anymore.

New Business:

Debi suggested doing a group costume for CC37 based on Ballywood for CC37.  Might be historical, or not.

Convention Reports/Announcements:

Costume-Con 37 will be held in Danvers, MA, 22-25 March 2019.  Aurora and Sharon are co-chairs.  They brought registration forms.  The hotel has an indoor waterpark.  There was some discussion about the convention.  Some of the highlights are:

  • there will be a One Pattern Contest
  • there will be a Future Fashion Folio
  • there will be a Future Fashion Show
  • there will be an SF & F Masquerade
  • there will be an Historical Masquerade
  • there will be a Dealers’ Room
  • there will contests, fan tables, and more…

Heliosphere, Albacon, and Lunacon – Rich, Stephanie, and Debi were at all three.  Heliosphere had a Saturday night Masked Ball themed on Blues music.

21 entries in the Albacon Masquerade, very informal, with cash prizes.

Lunacon had 4 entries, 1 out of competition.

Show & Tell:

Debi showed a photo of herself and Rich (happenstance) at Heliosphere.

Next Meetings:

The Watch City Steampunk Festival is May 13, 2017.  It was suggested that many of us go, sort of together.  See https://www.watchcityfestival.com/  Pat will see if The Chateau Restaurant or library, or some others, may be available.

Carol Salemi and Laurel Hill will each be dealers there.
